Early Life and Education
Patricia Wilson’s journey began with a commitment to education despite early challenges. After leaving high school at 17, she pursued and successfully obtained her GED in 2010. This achievement sparked a passion for learning, leading her to further her education. Patricia earned an Associate in Science degree, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU).
Professional Experience
Caregiving and Healthcare
From an early age, Patricia demonstrated a natural inclination toward caregiving. At just 12 years old, she began assisting in the care of family members in her home. This early experience laid the foundation for her future career in healthcare and social services.
2011-2015: State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) Patricia worked in various healthcare settings, including:
- Nursing homes
- ARH hospital
- Providing in-home services
Current Role:
Patricia is currently employed by the state of Kentucky as a caregiver, a position that allows her to continue her passion for providing services to individuals in need.
Education and Community Service
2012-2014: Policy Council Member, Bell-Whitley Head Start/Early Head Start
Patricia served on the Policy Council, contributing to early childhood education initiatives in her community.
Recent Years: Substitute Teacher
Patricia has worked as a substitute teacher, primarily in the Special Education Department. This experience has provided her with valuable insights into working with students of different abilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum.
Personal Life and Advocacy
Family
Patricia is a dedicated mother of three, Xavier and Kimber, including a 13-year-old son, Joseph (JB), who has autism. Her experience as a full-time caregiver to JB has deepened her understanding and passion for supporting individuals with special needs.
Faith and Community
Patricia’s strong faith serves as a cornerstone in her life, providing strength and patience in navigating the challenges and rewards of caring for a child with special needs. After relocating to access necessary services for JB, including ABA therapy. They have found a supportive church community, which has been instrumental in JB’s progress.
Autism Awareness and Education
Through her personal and professional experiences, Patricia has gained extensive knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She is passionate about sharing information on the common characteristics, behaviors, and varied manifestations of autism to promote understanding and support for individuals on the spectrum.
