About Us

Our Story

Patricia and JB

JB’s Safe Hands Society was born out of a deeply personal journey with autism. Our story begins with JB, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder with Intellectual and Language Impairment, Level 3 Severity Global Development Delay, in July 2015. This diagnosis came after a series of evaluations during his time in the First Steps program, which serves children from birth to age three with developmental delays.

Early Challenges and Interventions

Following his diagnosis, JB began receiving speech and occupational therapy once a week. Despite these efforts, JB exhibited aggressive behaviors, leading to his placement on Risperidone and a recommendation for ABA therapy. Unfortunately, the lack of ABA therapy in our town forced us to move in August 2018 to access the necessary services. Even with continued therapy, JB’s aggression escalated, significantly impacting his ability to attend school and interact with others.

A Turning Point

In May 2023, after a particularly challenging period, JB was hospitalized and transferred to Lady of Peace in Louisville, Kentucky. There, he received intensive therapy and medication management, learning essential life skills and techniques to manage his aggression.

His time at Lady of Peace marked a turning point, and upon his return home in July 2023, JB showed remarkable improvement.

Ongoing Support and Advocacy

In August 2023, JB was finally accepted into ABA therapy, which he attends full-time. Despite occasional setbacks, JB continues to make progress, supported by his loving family, including his two sisters, Kimber and Dacia, and his brother, Xavier.

Our Mission and Vision

Inspired by our journey, we launched JB’s Safe Hands Society on January 7, 2024, with the encouragement of our manager, Quentin. Our mission is to support other families facing similar challenges and to prevent the unnecessary institutionalization of children with autism. We aim to foster understanding and compassion through:

  • YouTube Channel: Sharing our daily experiences and challenges to provide support and insights to other families.
  • Training Seminars: Traveling from city to city to offer seminars with therapists, teaching parents, caregivers, and the public how to manage meltdowns and aggressive behaviors safely.
  • Community Awareness: Educating the public on the difference between meltdowns and typical child behavior, promoting empathy and understanding.

Future Goals

We envision a future where special needs children and their families have access to supportive communities.

Our long-term goal is to establish gyms in various cities where special needs children can play, and make friends, and where parents and caregivers can connect and share their experiences.
